Kinase Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Opsin App, LLC ("Opsin App," "we," "us," or "our") handles personal information when you use Kinase (the "App"), our website, and related services (together, the "Services"). By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described here. Where we act as the entity that decides how and why personal information is processed, we are the "controller" or "business" for that information; if we ever process personal information on behalf of an organization that provides you access, we act as that organization's service provider or processor. Kinase is designed to keep your data on your device. The health, activity, location, app-selection, and video information the App uses is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to, or collected by, Opsin App. The only personal information we actually collect is your email address if you join our website waitlist, plus standard server logs from our website host. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy is part of, and incorporated into, this Privacy Policy.

1. Scope

This Policy applies to personal information we collect through our website, mobile apps, and communications with you. It does not apply to third-party sites or services that may link to or from the Services, which have their own privacy practices.

2. Information We Collect

The only personal information Opsin App collects is:

Waitlist email address: If you join our waitlist on our website, we collect your email address to send you updates about Kinase. It is stored by our email provider, Kit (ConvertKit), acting as our processor.

Website server logs: When you visit our website, our host, Netlify, automatically records standard server-log data, such as your IP address and basic request details, to operate and secure the site.

The following are processed only on your device and are not collected by, or transmitted to, Opsin App:

Video and audio recordings (Apple AVFoundation): the short videos you record to unlock your shielded apps. Recordings are checked and stored entirely on your device. See Section 4.

Face-presence detection (Apple Vision): the App checks on your device whether a face appears in frames of your recording, to confirm you actually recorded yourself. See Section 5.

Screen Time and app-selection data (Apple Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity): the apps and categories you choose to shield, and the schedules that lock and unlock them. See Section 6.

Health and activity data (Apple HealthKit): for example steps, walking and running distance, workouts, exercise minutes, and time in daylight, used to determine whether you have met the conditions you set. The App also writes activity you log manually into Apple Health at your direction. See Section 3.

Location (Apple Core Location): used on your device to calculate local sunset for re-lock timing.

Purchases (Apple StoreKit): if you buy a subscription, Apple processes the transaction through the App Store; Opsin App does not receive or store your payment-card information.

3. Health and Other Sensitive Information

The activity, movement, daylight-exposure, and location data the App works with may be health-related or "sensitive." Because this data is processed only on your device and is never transmitted to Opsin App, we do not collect, store, share, or sell it.

Kinase both reads from and writes to Apple Health. It reads the activity measurements listed above to determine whether you have met the conditions you set. When you log activity manually in the App — for example a workout, a walking distance, or time spent outdoors — the App writes that entry into Apple Health on your device, at your direction, so that your own Health record reflects it. You may revoke read or write permission separately at any time in your device settings, and you can delete individual entries in the Apple Health app.

You control this data through your device: you can revoke the App's access to Health, Location, Camera, Microphone, Photos, or Screen Time at any time in your device settings, and deleting the App removes the data the App stored on your device. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy describes how the App handles this on-device data.

4. Your Videos

Kinase requires you to record a short video before it will unlock the apps you have shielded. These recordings are created, checked, and stored entirely on your device, inside the App's private storage. They are never uploaded to Opsin App, never sent to any third party, and never used to train any model. We cannot see them, and we have no ability to retrieve them.

You own your recordings. Opsin App claims no ownership of, and no license to, any video or audio you create with the App.

If you turn on the optional setting to save your recordings to your photo library, the App adds copies to Apple Photos on your device. That permission is add-only: the App can add photos and videos, and cannot read, browse, or delete the rest of your library. Videos saved to Photos are then governed by your own device and iCloud settings, including any backup or sync you have enabled with Apple.

Recordings held inside the App are deleted when you delete them in the App or when you delete the App. Copies you exported to Photos remain in your photo library until you remove them there.

5. Face-Presence Detection

To confirm that a recording is genuinely of you and not, for example, of a ceiling or a blank wall, the App uses Apple's Vision framework on your device to check whether a human face appears in a small number of sampled frames. This check happens entirely on your device and produces only a yes-or-no result used at the moment of validation.

The App does not identify you, does not create or store a faceprint, face template, or scan of face geometry, does not compare faces across recordings or against any database, and does not retain the result of the check beyond the unlock decision. No image, frame, measurement, or derived value is transmitted to Opsin App or any third party. When you record using the rear camera, the App does not perform the face check at all.

6. Screen Time and App-Selection Data

Kinase uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to shield the apps you choose and to re-lock them on the schedule you set. Kinase uses individual authorization only: it protects the device of the person using it. It is not a parental-control or supervision product, and it cannot be used through the App to monitor or restrict another person's device.

When you select apps or categories to shield, Apple gives the App opaque tokens that stand for your selections. Those tokens are stored on your device and are meaningful only on your device. The App does not receive the names of the apps you select, and it does not receive, record, or report which apps you open, how long you use them, or what you do in them. Opsin App receives none of this information in any form.

7. How We Use Information

We use the limited information we collect to operate our website, send waitlist updates to people who request them, respond to your messages, keep our site secure, and comply with our legal obligations. Kinase uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies, and does not use any health, activity, location, app-selection, or video data for advertising or for any purpose off your device.

7.1. Marketing Communications

With your consent where required, we may send you marketing messages about our products and features. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by adjusting your notification settings. Even if you opt out of marketing, we may still send you non-promotional messages about your account, purchases, or the operation of the Services.

8. Users Outside the United States

The App processes data only on your device, and our website waitlist is directed to users in the United States. We do not target the Services to the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. If you are located in the EEA or UK and choose to join our waitlist or contact us, the limited information you provide (such as your email address) may be subject to the GDPR, and you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection; to exercise them, contact us using the information below. Because your health, activity, location, app-selection, and video data stay on your device and are never sent to us, they are not processed by Opsin App.

9. How We Share Information

We share the limited personal information only as follows:

Kit (ConvertKit): our email provider, which stores waitlist email addresses on our behalf as a processor.

Netlify: our website host, which processes server-log data to operate and secure the site.

Professional advisors: legal, accounting, and compliance advisors.

Legal and safety: government authorities or others when required by law or legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.

Business transfers: a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

We do not share health, activity, location, app-selection, or video data, because that data never leaves your device.

10. We Do Not Sell; Opt-Out Rights

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use no advertising or analytics technologies. Where applicable, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control.

11. Tracking Technologies

Our website is a static site that sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs as described above. If we add cookies or analytics in the future, we will update this Policy before doing so.

12. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights, subject to legal exceptions: to access or know what personal information we hold; to correct inaccurate information; to delete your information; to receive a portable copy; to opt out of certain uses; to withdraw consent; to appeal a decision on your request; and not to be treated differently for exercising your rights. To make a request, contact us using Section 20. We may need to verify your identity, and you may use an authorized agent if the agent provides proof of authorization. We respond within the time the law requires. Because most of the App's data stays on your device, you exercise access and deletion for that data directly on your device by revoking access or deleting the App. For waitlist email addresses, use the unsubscribe link or contact us, and we will delete your address from Kit within 15 days (the period after which Kit's rolling system backups cycle out).

13. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Residents of California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended) have the rights described in Section 10 and Section 12, including rights concerning sensitive personal information. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Notice at Collection (California). The only personal information Opsin App collects is: (a) identifiers (i.e., the email address you provide if you join our website waitlist); and (b) internet or network activity / server-log data (e.g., IP address and basic request details automatically logged by our website host). We collect (a) to send you waitlist updates and respond to you, and (b) to operate and secure our website. We retain each as described in the "Data Retention" section. We do not sell or share personal information, and we use no advertising or analytics technologies. The health, activity, location, app-selection, video, and audio data the App uses is processed only on your device and is not collected by Opsin App, so it is not included above.

14. Controller and International Processing

For the limited personal information Opsin App collects (your waitlist email address and website server logs), the controller is Opsin App, LLC. This information is processed and stored in the United States by our providers, Kit (ConvertKit) and Netlify; if you access the waitlist from outside the United States, you understand your information will be processed here. The App's unlock decisions are made on your device and are not used to produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. Where personal information is transferred from the EEA, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our providers Kit and Netlify have agreed to Standard Contractual Clauses (or equivalent safeguards) that apply to those transfers.

15. Data Retention

Opsin App does not hold your health, activity, location, app-selection, or video data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. That data lives only on your device and is removed when you revoke access, delete it in the App, or delete the App. Copies you chose to export to Apple Photos remain in your photo library until you remove them. We keep waitlist email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, after which they are removed from Kit within 15 days (the period after which Kit's rolling system backups cycle out). Netlify retains server logs under its standard practices.

16. Data Security

Health, activity, location, app-selection, and video data are protected by the security of your device and Apple's frameworks, because that data stays on your device. The waitlist email list is held in Kit and accessible only through the account owner's credentials, which are protected by a strong, unique password and multi-factor authentication. Access is limited to Opsin App's sole account owner, and no copy of the list is stored on our servers, as we operate no backend. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

17. International Users

Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

18. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

19. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. The current Policy is always available through the Services.
